The Team

After two and a half years into our university course, the four of us found ourselves getting nearer and nearer to the finish-mark of our graduation — this final stage was an internship that would hopefully provide a lot of the experience we would need to find success professionally.

Each of us finding our strengths in different stages of animation production, we teamed up and slowly started to flesh out how the process could work.

Asa (Marta Ribeiro)

Direction, Narrative and Concept Art, Keyframes

Marta Ribeiro or asa (pseudonym) was born in Porto. Marta finished high school at Escola Artística de Soares dos Reis, specializing in Multimedia, where her first short film “Hotaru” was produced, awarded and winner of the STUFFit Student Film Festival in the Senior Animation Category and Cinedita's Film Festival - Arganil's Shorts Competition.

Laura Pires

Concept Art, Clean-up

Laura Pires is a Concept Artist and Illustrator from the south of Portugal focused on Visual Development for Animation. She studied Moving Image at Universidade do Algarve and is currently studying Concept Art at ETIC.

Tiago Pimenta

Post-Production, Compositing, 3D, Pre-vis, Effects

Tiago Pimenta has recently graduated from the Moving Image (Animation) course at the University of Algarve in Portugal. With a particular interest in special effects and in the field of 3D.

Alice do Carmo

Inbetweens, Sound Draft

Alice do Carmo has recently graduated from the Moving Image (Animation) course at University of Algarve. They have experience in video-clips and publicity since 2015 and are interested in several filmmaking fields, namely the area of animation (hybrid/experimental and Stop-Motion) as well as producing, screenwriting and editing.

Internship Supervisors

During the production process, the internship supervisors were not only essencial for their ability to mentor us and give a fresh perspective on our work with their experience, but also for their support and enthusiam in our weekly meetings.

During the pre-production process this was especially important in order for the story to be fleshed out properly before moving on to the production and animation process — being asked questions on the character's motivations, the true focus and themes of the narrative, and, through back-and-forth and changing of the story, analysing the storyboard drafts and how it could be improved in its clarity (visual and storytelling-wise).

Bruno Caetano

Cola Animation

Portimão,1979. Self-taught stop motion animator and builder, his professional career led him to participate in projects of various animation techniques, as well as in other areas of artistic interest. Works mostly as a director, producer and animator. Publishes comics at Comic Heart and A Seita.

Ala Nunu

Cola Animation

Born in 1994 in Poznań Poland, currently based in France. Studied at University of Arts in her hometown, Royal College of Art in London and La Poudriere in Valence, France. Independent animation director who directed series and short films, worked for inter alia BFI, London Natural History Museum and The Atlantic.

João Alves

Cola Animation

Born in 1982, grew up divided between science and arts, animation and horror. Graduated as a Marine Biologist in 2006, started working on a weekly animated skit for TV four months later. Self-taught, in 2010 made a short that won several horror and animation awards. Wrote the first feature in 2017.

Cátia Peres

UALG Internship Supervisor

Cátia Peres has basic training in Visual Design, a postgraduate degree in illustration and comics, a Master's in Directing for Animation at the Royal College of Arts – NFTS and a PhD focused on research in Animation and Japanese Animation. She is currently a full-time professor in Animation at UAlg-University of Algarve and a researcher in the field of animation (UNIDCOM, IADE).
